What is Religion?

The following text is an excerpt from my humble effort The Truth Beckons”. It’s a detailed version of “The Truth Beckons”, the one which is here on my blog and the one you must have received as a power point presentation. Alhumdulillah (All praise be to Allah), this booklet is almost complete, but it will take a while to see the light of the day. InshaAllah you will get to know once its ready to be delivered in your service.
(The numbers in the brackets indicate that they have been explained at the end of this post.)

Excerpt

The biggest misconception about Islam (1)is that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is its founder and it’s a religion of Muslims. Before discussing about what Islam is and what does the word Muslim mean, first it’s imperative to discuss religion in brief.

Generally it is understood that religion only means acts which involves worship of God. But such an erroneous way of thinking is the result of ignorance and lack of knowledge. In fact religion is the very foundation on which man’s life is build upon. It tells man who is he? What’s the purpose of his creation? Who is his Creator and what he expects from him? Religion means way of life. On one hand it informs man his duties and relationship with God and on the other; it tells man his duties and relationship with his fellow beings. Actually, this dual responsibility, one towards his Creator and the other towards his fellow beings is the sum total of man’s purpose of life. The former tells us what God is and what God is not and that we should worship none but Him. The latter informs that all humans are equal in the sight of Allah. Nobody is high or low due to wealth or worldly power one possesses, or the family he is born in, but by virtuous deeds. It informs man to fulfill his duties towards his fellow beings as a father, mother, child, spouse, neighbour, traveller, etc. In a nutshell, there is not an aspect of man’s life in which religion leaves man unguided.

True religion has to be divine in nature. Man made religion can out rightly be rejected as a religion because religion essentially means connecting man with God. It is to know who our Creator is and what’s our relationship with Him. Man made religion can never throw light on this aspect.

As said earlier that all the prophets invited people to worship none but God and submitted their will to the will of their Creator. The prophets (peace be upon them all) invited men to worship their Creator and Fashioner and follow their way so that they may prosper and be successful, both in this world and the world hereafter. The purpose of sending messengers was to remind mankind the forgotten purpose of life. They invited man to all that was good and forbade all that was bad. They made some things permissible which were good and beneficial and some impermissible which were bad and harmful for man by the command of God. Since, Allah is our Creator, hence only He knows best what is beneficial and what is harmful for man. Nobody else has such knowledge, not even man himself. Man knows only that much which Allah has made him known. Now if man makes things lawful unto himself, which are unlawful and forbidden by God, it will not only harm him, but will also affect his family, society and humanity at large. That’s how evil become prevalent in the society and when it becomes common place and people get used to it, it astonishingly it becomes a law. That’s the beauty of man made laws! For example, Allah has made it lawful for man to marry up to four women.

Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one.
(Qur'aan, Chapter 4, Verse 3)

The above said verse says that man can marry up to four women, but with a condition, i.e., only if he can treat all the four equally and with justice. If he cannot, then he should marry only one. There are various reasons which could be cited for man been given permission to practice limited polygyny (2). First and foremost, I would say that Allah is well aware of the biological, physiological and psychological nature of man and woman as He is their Creator. Hence, He made it permissible for man to practice limited polygyny. May be a time will come when it will be established that limited polygyny is in perfect harmony with the nature of man, just as many teachings of our beloved prophet (peace be upon him) are turning out be in perfect harmony with science and nature as science develops. Please, remember that this Divine Law which Muhammad (peace be upon him) brought is for all times to come and is much advanced, therefore, there would be many things which cannot be proved right now on the basis of reason and logic. Once it is understood that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final messenger of God, we should follow his way without probing into each and everything. Probing is fine if it is limited up to some extent, but if we get down to probe everything, we will make our lives difficult. It should also be understood that science is still developing and every prophetic teaching cannot be put to test for the reason mentioned in the foregoing lines that the Divine Law which Muhammad (peace be upon him) brought is for all times to come and is much advanced.

Coming back to limited polygyny, please remember that it’s just permissible (that too with conditions) and not mandatory. In our times we hardly see any Muslim having more than one wife at one time. Secondly, for those in search of reason and logic as to why God made four marriages permissible, I would like to ask those who raise question about men being allowed to have more than one wife that what solution they have if there is a situation where women out number men and this situation could arise in case of war, etc? Marriage is a biological and physical need of man and woman, if it is not fulfilled under the institution of marriage then there is a great possibility that it will be fulfilled out of this institution, which is ethically and morally wrong. Now given an option to choose between a man having up to 4 wives (thereby giving them respect and honour which they deserve as wives) and a man having only one wife (and leaving the excess women to explore other options, which obviously cannot be morally right), which one would we prefer? Of course, if we have any morality left, without an iota of doubt we will choose the option of having a man having up to 4 wives. Logically also it is men whose chances are more to be less in numbers as compared to women, as they are the one whose life is at greater risk as compared to women, as it is they who are involved in jobs where there is great risk of life is involved.

It is nothing but sheer hypocrisy on the part of those, specially the west who try to portray Islamic law of limited polygyny as a taboo. For men in the west, it’s ok to have a wife at home to bear children and girl friends for outdoors and vice versa for women. For them it’s ok to have illicit relations and have illegitimate children, if of course the child in the womb is lucky enough to escape abortion! If their marriage survives for some years (if it at all does), it’s an achievement in itself. Actually, the west has totally gone bankrupt in terms moral values. They have got so much used to immoral ways that it’s not considered immoral to adopt immoral ways. In fact, immorality has become a fashion. As said couple of paragraphs earlier that when evil ways are adopted and when we get used to them, they astonishingly become law. The prostitution is one such example. Now they are exporting same culture to eastern countries and we are more than happy to import and adopt their ways and the end result is before all of us to see. I need not go into details. But thank God, there are signs of morality raising its head in the west, but we have just begun adopting all the filthy and morally degrading ways that the west has to offer. We tend to follow the west blindly whichever way they are headed. If they are headed to nose dive into a ditch, we too will follow them. One may ask why? Prompt comes the reply, it’s a fashion to follow the west! May Allah save us all and help us to use our intellect.

With regard to different religions it is philosophically said that they are just different path ways leading to one same destination, meaning God. If it is so then the teachings of all the religions should also be the same. Why not put them to test and let’s see whether they really lead to the same destination or there is a difference of chalk and cheese (3). It’s not possible to take all religions into consideration as they are mushrooming like anything. We will take only major religions or the so called 'religions' for our study. We will see that what major religions like Hinduism, Christianity and Islam really mean.

The term ‘Hinduism’ has been derived from the word ‘Hindu’. ‘Hindu’ is a Persian word which means dark. The word was first used by Muslims for the inhabitants of the ‘land beyond Indus (Sindhu) river’ and later for the ancient Indians in general. The word was never used in Indian literature or scriptures before the advent Muslims in India. They used the term ‘Hindu’ to mean Indian non-Muslims only. Below I quote the well known figures who have defined Hinduism thus:

“Frankly speaking, it is not possible to say definitely who is a Hindu and what is Hinduism. These questions have been considered again and again by eminent scholars and so far no satisfactory answer has been given. Hinduism has within itself all types of religions such as theism, atheism, polytheism, Adwaitism, Dwaitism, Saivism, Vaishnavism and so forth. It contains nature worship, ancestor worship, animal worship, idol worship, demon worship, symbol worship, self worship and the highest god worship. Its conflicting philosophies will confound any ordinary person. From barbarous practices and dark superstitions, up to the most mystic rites and sublime philosophies, there is a place for all gradations and varieties in Hinduism. Similarly, among the Hindu population are found half barbarian wild tribes, and depressed classes and untouchables, along with similar numbers of cultured, gentle natures and highly evolved souls.”
Swami Dharma Theertha

(Hinduism is)”… a name without any content…Its content, if any, has altered from age to age, from community to community. It meant one thing in the Vedic period, another in the Brahmanical, a third in the Buddhist – one to Saivite, another to Vaishnavite and Sakta.”
Dr. Radhakrishnan, ex-president of India and an eminent interpreter of Hindusim.

“Hinduism, as a faith, is vague, amorphous, many sided, all things to all men. It is hardly possible to define it, or indeed to say definitely whether it is a religion or not, in the usual sense of the word. In its present form, and even in the past, it embraces many beliefs and practices, from the highest to the lowest, often opposed to or contradicting each other.”
Jawaharlal Nehru

Thus we see that Hinduism is not the name of any religion. It’s the name given to people living across river Indus. Therefore, Hinduism is a geographical definition rather than the name of a religion as commonly understood. Though many Hindu scholars sometimes use the word Sanatan Dharma (eternal religion) and sometime Vedic Dharma (religion of the Veda) in place of Hinduism.

The word Christianity comes from the word Christ. Those who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) are called Christians. According to Christianity, every child that is born into this world is born with sin because of the original sin. The original sin refers to the sin which was committed by Adam and Eve (peace be upon them) when they ate the fruit of the forbidden tree. Since the parents, that is Adam and Eve (peace be upon them), committed the sin, hence that sin passed on from them to posterity, that is all humans. Since, this sin was so great that it was not possible for man to supplicate before God and seek His forgiveness, therefore God gave His only begotten son in the form of Jesus (peace be upon him) to the world for the atonement (to redeem humanity).

The conception of God in Christianity is extremely ambiguous and difficult to understand. When I got down to write these few lines to define Christianity, I had a book on Christianity in my hand, but could not write a single line for couple hours because it was so confusing to define it. But in my next sitting, by the Grace of Allah, I managed to get started. According to Christianity, God is composed of three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. This doctrine of God is known as the doctrine of Trinity. In explaining and interpreting this puzzle, the Christian scholars themselves are so divided and different in opinions that it is extremely difficult to arrive with certainty at one conclusion.

Due to lack of space it’s not possible to discuss Christianity in detail neither it’s the purpose here, but it should not go without mention to speak about certain points. Firstly, the doctrine of Trinity is so confusing that even Christian scholars, as said earlier are divided on this. Secondly, how people who came prior to Jesus (peace be upon him) will be redeemed? Thirdly, how can an innocent child be born with sins? Why should he/she bear the burden or made responsible for the mistakes of his/her ancestors? Look at any child, he/she looks so innocent, totally oblivious of the wicked ways of this world. Rather, it is we who misguide him/her to the evil ways. Fourthly, the founder of present day Christianity is Paul and not Jesus (peace be upon him) as commonly understood because Jesus (peace be upon him) never invited people to worship him. In fact, he like all other prophets (peace be upon them) invited people to worship none but God. InshaAllah (God willing), the second part of “The Truth Beckons” will specially be written for the people of the book (i.e., Christians and Jews).

Besides Islam, all religions get their names from their leaders. Christianity gets its name from Christ; Buddhism from Buddha, Jainism from Jain, and Zoroastrianism from Zoroaster and so on and so forth. I have used the word ‘leader’ in place of ‘founder’ (as it is commonly used) because the true prophets (4) never founded any new religion. They taught their followers only what they were commanded by God, that is to invite people to worship none but God and follow their way and guard themselves from evil. These names were given by their followers after they departed from this world. That’s why, for example, we see that there was nothing like Christianity before Christ (May peace be upon him). Religion to God has always been one and that is peaceful submission to His Allah.

Islam comes from the Arabic letters sa-la-ma meaning peace. It also means peaceful submission to the will of Allah. Unlike other religions it is not named after any prophet, not even Muhammad (peace be upon him). Those who use the word Muhammadism are absolutely wrong. There is no such term in Islamic terminology. As said in the beginning of the chapter, majority of people think that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the founder of Islam. Astonishingly, due to ignorance even some Muslims think that Islam came after coming of the last prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In fact Islam has been there since the first man Adam (peace be upon him) set his foot on earth. As defined earlier Islam means peaceful submission to the will of Allah. Hence anybody who bows down before none but God and follows His commands is practicing Islam. Therefore all the prophets (peace be upon them) and all the obedient men and women practiced nothing but Islam as they all bowed down before God’s will. Adam, Noah, Joseph, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, etc (peace be upon them all) practiced and lived by Islam and invited others to do the same. Since, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an Arab and the Book revealed on him (Qur’aan) was in Arabic, hence the word used for submission to the will of Allah also got to be Arabic, hence Islam. As mentioned earlier that Allah sent messengers in every nook and corner of the world and they all spoke in the language of the people they were sent to, therefore they would have used word similar in meaning to Islam, but in their language. Thus we see that the essence and meaning has always been one, it’s just the language that has changed. Since Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as the last and final messenger for all men and women till the end of this world, therefore God made Arabic as a common language for all men and women to make them one Ummah (people), which we are, its just that we do not know. The preceding lines are very important, if these are understood, it’s very easy to under Islam and break all the barriers of narrow mindedness.

Muslim is an Arabic used for those who are obedient to God. Naturally, anybody who bows down before God’s will and becomes obedient to God is called a Muslim. It’s also imperative to remind the readers that a person doesn’t become Muslim or can be truly called a Muslim just by being born and brought up in a Muslim family. Unless and until one doesn’t become obedient to God and follow His last prophet, one cannot be called Muslim in the real sense of the term. Therefore, any person who is not even born and brought up in a Muslim family will be called a Muslim, if he is obedient to God and follows the way of the last prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The word Muslim can best be explained, as Islam is explained in the preceding lines. Since, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an Arab and the Book revealed on him (Qur’aan) was in Arabic, hence the word used for the obedient slaves of God also got to be Arabic, hence, Muslim. As mentioned earlier that Allah sent messengers in every nook and corner of the world and they all spoke in the language of the people they were sent to, therefore they must have used words similar in meaning to the word Muslim, but in their language. Thus the essence and meaning has always been one, it’s just the language that has changed.

On the other hand a rebel is called a Kaafir or a Mushrik in Arabic. Kafir is the term used for one who reject God as one and reject His last messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him). Since, Kufr means rejection and a person can only reject when he is offered something, in this context, Islam. Though on the grounds of piety, one should not call anyone Kafir. Shirk means associating divinity to someone along with God and the one who does this is called Mushrik. In other words, it means associating divine attributes (which are solely for God) to anyone other than God. For example, the power to give life and death solely lies with Allah. If anyone ascribes these attributes to anyone else, it amounts to Shirk.

There is another category of men called Munafiq. It’s an Arabic term meaning hypocrite. This term is used for those people who profess to be Muslims, but they are actually not. It’s been condemned in very strict sense of the term in the Qur'aan. Below I mention a verse of the Qur’aan and a tradition of the prophet (peace be upon him) regarding hypocrisy. The tradition of the prophet (peace be upon him) gives signs of hypocrisy.

"Four traits whoever possesses them is a hypocrite and whoever possesses some of them has an element of hypocrisy until he leaves it: the one who when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise, when he disputes he transgresses and when he makes an agreement he violates it."

"The Hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them."
(Qur'aan, Chapter 4, verse,145)

Thus we see that man, according to God, could be categorised as Muslim, Kaafir/Mushrik and Munafiq. The rest of categorisations are man made and they do not have relevance. The terms like, Hindu, Christian, Jew, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, etc are all man made.

To summarise what is said in the preceding few paragraphs, it’s important to mention that Qur’aan is in Arabic, therefore Allah has used the term Islam for His religion, Muslim for His obedient servants, Kaafir or Mushrik for the rebels and Munafiq for the hypocrites. Now for instance, if Qur’aan were to be revealed in English instead of Arabic, Allah of course would not have used the words like Islam, Muslim, Kafir, Mushrik and Munafiq. He probably would have used “obedient” in place of Muslims, “rebel” in place of Kaafir or Mushrik, “hypocrite” in place of Munafiq. In the same way some other term would have been used in place of Islam which would have meant peaceful submission to will of Allah.

For instance, the prophet/s which came to India must have spoken in Sanskrit or some other language which had been prevalent at that time. Their religion essentially was Islam, but they must have used some other word in it’s place in their language because all the prophets came from one True God and their basic message was essentially one and the same, i.e., worship your True Lord, do not associate partners unto Him and do righteous deeds.

Islam is something that comes naturally to man. It is nothing but man being to his natural self. For example, it’s in man’s nature to believe in One God. That’s why we see that every one of us proclaims that God of all is one, but its only limited to our tongue. It doesn’t go any further down our throats. In other words, it’s not manifested in our deeds. It’s pretty straight and simple that when we all proclaim that God is one then we should also worship Him as one and as an absolute one.

To explain it further that Islam comes naturally to man, I would like to quote a hadith (tradition) of the prophet. Narrated by Abu Huraira (5) (may Allah be pleased with him), Allah's Apostle said,

"Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magainism (fire worshipper), as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?" Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses:

"The pure Allah's Islamic nature (true faith of Islam) (i.e. worshipping none but Allah) with which He has created human beings. No change let there be in the religion of Allah (i.e. joining none in worship with Allah). That is the straight religion (Islam) but most of men know not." (Qur'aan, Chapter 30, Verse 30)

In the above mentioned hadith of the prophet (peace be upon him), the child (6) refers to any child, whether born to a Hindu, a Muslim, a Sikh or a Christian. He is born to his natural self, i.e., as a believer in one God. That’s why the funeral prayer of a child is different from an adult in Islam. In an adult funeral prayer we beseech Allah to forgive the sins of the dead whereas in a child’s funeral prayer we beseech Allah to make him/her a source for our salvation because children are innocent. If a child dies before reaching the age of puberty he/she will go to Jannah (heaven). God is Just and does not punish the insane and the children who do not have sense to differentiate between right and wrong, between an idol and God. A man is punished by God only when despite having all the faculties functioning well he rebels against God and His commands. Below I mention the Islamic way of offering funeral prayers of both a child and an adult.

Funeral prayer for an adult
O Allah! Forgive those of us that are alive and those that are dead; those of us that are present, and those of us that are absent; those of us that are young and those of us who are adults; O Allah! Whomsoever of us You keep alive, let him live as a follower of Islam; and whomsoever of us You cause to die, let him die a believer.

Funeral prayer for a child (boy or girl)
"O Allah! Cause him/her to become a means of salvation for us, and cause his/her loss to become a means of reward and recompense for us (in the Hereafter), and make him/her for us an intercessor whose intercession be granted by Thee."

Now it’s another matter that those who profess to be Muslims are not Muslims in actual sense of the term. Therefore, it’s very important to mention that we should not get mistaken by them and their behaviour. We still have the Qur’aan and prophet’s life carefully preserved in its pristine form for anyone who aspires to seek the truth and saves himself/herself from the eternal doom.

To sum it up, it must be said that the religion from time in memorial has always been one and that is of peaceful submission to the will of the Allah and in Arabic it is called Islam. Thus we see that God has always been one which is absolute and eternal. The prophets (peace be upon them all) were men like you and me but they were specially chosen people to deliver the divine message to mankind. They were sent to every nation and community to guide mankind to the path of virtue and bliss. They invited men and women to worship none but God and give up superstitious beliefs and customs. This chain of messengers culminated with the coming of the last prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is what Qur’aan has to say in regard to the finality of the message brought by Muhammad (peace be upon him)

“This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.”
(Qur'aan, Chapter 5, Verse 3)

“If anyone desires religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him.”
(Qur'aan, Chapter 3, Verse 85)

Since, this Law brought by Muhammad (peace be upon him) is for all times to come till the end of this world, therefore Allah took the responsibility upon Himself to safeguard it from any kind of corruption and interpolation.

Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder? and, behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption].
(Qur'aan, Chapter 15, Verse 9)

This is what learned men have to say with regard to the most modern divine Law sent by God for mankind.

“The league of nations founded by the prophet of Islam put the principle of international unity and human brother hood on such universal foundations as to show candle to others nations”
He continues “The fact is that no nation of the world can show a parallel to what Islam has done towards the realisation of the idea of the League of Nations”

Today after a lapse of fourteen centuries, the life and teachings of Muhammad (peace be upon him) have survived without the slighest loss, alteration or interpolation. They offer the same undying hope for treating mankind’s many ills, which they did when he was alive.

This is not the claim of Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) followers but also the inescapable conclusion forced upon by a critical and unbiased history.

Prof. Hurgronje

My problem to write this monograph is easier, because we are not generally fed now on that (distorted) kind of history and much time need not be spent on pointing out our misrepresentations of Islam. The theory of Islam and sword, for instance, is not heard now in any quarter worth the name. The principle of Islam that “there is no compulsion in religion” is well known.
K. S. Ramakrishna Rao in 'Mohammed: The Prophet of Islam,' 1989

“If any religion has a chance of ruling over England, nay Europe within the next hundred years, it could be Islam. I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion, which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence, which can make itself appeal to every age.”
Sir George Bernard Shaw in 'The Genuine Islam,' Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936.

"Islam is a religion that is essentially rationalistic in the widest sense of this term considered etymologically (7) and historically....the teachings of the Prophet, the Qur'an has invariably kept its place as the fundamental starting point, and the dogma of unity of God has always been proclaimed therein with a grandeur a majesty, an invariable purity and with a note of sure conviction, which it is hard to find surpassed outside the pale of Islam....A creed so precise, so stripped of all theological complexities and consequently so accessible to the ordinary understanding might be expected to possess and does indeed possess a marvelous power of winning its way into the consciences of men."
Edward Montet, 'La Propagande Chretienne et ses Adversaries Musulmans,' Paris 1890. (Also in T.W. Arnold in 'The Preaching of Islam,' London 1913.)

"No other religion in history spread so rapidly as Islam. The West has widely believed that this surge of religion was made possible by the sword. But no modern scholar accepts this idea, and the Qur’an is explicit in the support of the freedom of conscience."
James Michener in ‘Islam: The Misunderstood Religion,’ Reader’s Digest, May 1955, pp. 68-70.

I will end this chapter here by just highlighting the one of the quotes mentioned above. It seems like as if Allah has put the following words in Sir George Bernard Shaw’s mouth, when he says, “It is the only religion, which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence, which can make itself appeal to every age.”

How true! I cannot help but recall one of the points mentioned in argument for Qur’aan being the word of God. It was mentioned there that however great a genius one may be, it is impossible for one to establish rules to solve all kind of problems that mankind may ever encounter till the end of time. This is a miracle of the Qur’aan to adapt itself with the changing times. It indeed is a living miracle of the last prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him).

God, the most merciful has done so much favour on us by giving a perfect and complete way of life in the form of Islam and also took the responsibility upon Himself to safeguard and preserve it, nay we humans corrupt it like other revealed scriptures before Qur’aan, yet we adopt outdated and antiquated ways of life and call ourselves modern. Imagine a man of 21st century reaching for the stars, the moons and other planets and exploring the hidden treasures of the world, yet bowing down before lifeless stones and idols and proclaiming himself to be modern. This is such a paradox. This man of 21st century does not accept anything which defies his reason and logic, but somehow he accepts the age old customs and traditions, which fail every test of reason and logic. May Allah lift the veils from our eyes and open our breasts to accept the Truth which is so clearly manifested in the nature around us and within our ownselves.

Words explained:

1. Islam is actually a ‘Deen’. Deen is an Arabic word meaning ‘way of life’. But for the convenience of the readers, I have used the word ‘religion’ in place of ‘Deen’. Actually, the Arabic language used in the Qur’aan is so rich that it’s not possible to literally translate it into any other language.

2. Polygyny: polygamy in which one man has more than one wife

3. Two things, which are superficially alike but are in fact are totally different.

4. When I say true prophets, I mean to say that it’s not necessary that the leaders of all the religions were prophets and it is after their demise that people started worshipping them and gave their teachings the name of religion after their name. As already mentioned in the chapter ‘Messeneger of God’, we know only 25 such prophets by name through Qur’aan. Therefore, those names that are not mentioned in the Qur’aan, we cannot say whether they were prophets or not.

5. A companion of the prophet

6. In Islam, child is one who has not reached the age of puberty. Once a child reaches the age of puberty, he/she is considered to be having wisdom to differentiate between right and wrong. Now if he/she associates partners unto God, worships things and objects other than God, he/she is liable to punishment.

What are you worshipping?

All praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds and peace and blessings upon His last and final messenger Muhammad.
I would like to narrate a beautiful story of a prophet named Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in the light of the following verse of the Qur'aan, God's final revelation for entire mankind.
“O men! Here is a parable set forth! Listen to it! Those on whom, besides Allah, ye call, cannot create (even) a fly, if they all met together for the purpose! And if the fly should snatch away anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. Feeble are those who petition and those whom they petition!”
(Qur'aan, Chapter 22, Verse 73)
It should be remembered that God is not known through conjectures, whims and fancies of man. He is known through sincerity of heart and purpose. There should be a will to know Him. It was this sincereity of heart which guided Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to Truth.
Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was born in a house of idolaters, in the kingdom of Babylon. His father Aazar was a well-known idol sculptor that his people worshipped. As a young child, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) used to watch his father sculpting these idols from stones or wood. When his father was done with them, Ibrahim would use them as toys, riding on their backs, and kicking them at times. Then after a while, he would see these same statues in the temple, and people prostrating in front of them! Ibrahim asked his father: "Why do you take these toys to the temple?" His father said: "They are statues that represent our gods. We worship them, we ask favors from them, and we offer them presents." Ibrahim's mind rejected this idea, and he felt repulsion towards the idols.

As Ibrahim grew young he still could not believe that his people were worshipping the statues. He laughed at them whenever he saw them entering the temple, lowering their heads, silently offering the statues the best of their food, crying and asking forgiveness from them. He wondered how his people would not realize that these are only stones that could neither benefit nor harm them. They could not be gods, they have no power. God is Greater than what his people were worshipping, Most Powerful, Most Magnificent. One could not find Him sitting on a table in a temple!

One night, Ibrahim went up to the mountain, leaned against a rock, and looked up to the sky. He saw a shining star, and told his people: "Could this be my Lord?" But when it set he said: "I don't like those that set." The star has disappeared, it could not be God. God is always present. Then he saw the moon rising in splendor and told them: "Could this be my Lord?" But it also sets. At daybreak, he saw the sun rising and said: "Could this be my Lord, this is bigger?" But when the sun set he said: "O my people I am free from all that you join as partners with Allah! I have turned my face towards Him Who created the heavens and the earth, and never shall I give partners to Allah." Our Lord is the Creator of the heavens and the earth and everything. He has the power to make the stars rise and set. Ibrahim then heard Allah calling him: "O Ibrahim!" Ibrahim said trembling: "Here I am O my Lord!" "Submit to Me! Be a Muslim*!" Ibrahim fell on the ground, prostrating and crying, he said: "I submit to the Lord of the universe!" Ibrahim kept prostrating until night came again. He got up and went back to his home, in peace, full of conviction that Allah has guided him to the Truth.

A new life started for Ibrahim. His mission now was to call his people to the Truth. He would start with his father who was the closest person to him, and whom he loved so much. He said to him in the softest and kindest voice: "O father! Why do you worship that which doesn't hear, doesn't see, and cannot avail you in anything? O father, I have got knowledge which you have not, so follow me. I will guide you to a straight path." His father replied angrily: "Do you reject my gods, O Ibrahim? If you don't stop I will stone you. Get away from me before I punish you." Ibrahim said: "Peace be on you! I will ask forgiveness of my Lord for you."

Ibrahim left his father after having lost hopes to guide him to the right path. He then went to his people and invited them to worship one true God, but they rejected his call and threatened him. Then Ibrahim came up with an idea to guide his people to the true path. A big celebration was coming soon, where everybody would leave town for a big feast on the riverbank. After everybody had left the town, Ibrahim went to temple armed with an axe. Statues of all shapes and sizes were sitting there adorned with decorations. Plates of food were offered to them, but the food was untouched. "Well, why don't you eat? The food is getting cold." He said to the statues, joking; then with his axe he destroyed all the statues except one, the biggest of them. He hung the axe around its neck and left.

When people came back to the temple they saw their idols destroyed. They were shocked seeing their gods broken to pieces. They wondered who might have done this. Then they all remembered that the young Ibrahim was talking evil of their idols. They brought him to the temple and asked him: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods?" Ibrahim said: "No, this statue, the biggest of them has done it. Ask them if they can speak." "You know well that these idols don't speak!" They said impatiently. "Then how come you worship things that can neither speak nor see, nor even fend for themselves? Have you lost your minds?"

They were speechless. In their heart of hearts they knew that the Truth is with Ibrahim, but their arrogance and pride prevented them to accept it, and reject the idols they were worshipping for generations. This they thought would be total defeat. They started yelling at him and shouting: "Burn him! Burn him! Take revenge for your gods!"

The decision to burn Ibrahim to death was affirmed by the priests and the king of Babylon, Nimrod. The news spread like a fire in the kingdom, and people were coming from all places to watch the execution. A huge pit was dug up and a large quantity of wood was piled up. Then the biggest fire people ever witnessed was lit. The fire flames were so high up in the sky that the birds could not fly over it for fear of being burned! Ibrahim's hands and feet were chained, and he was put in a catapult to throw him into the fire. At that time, Angel Jibreel came to him and said: "O Ibrahim! Is there anything you wish for?" Ibrahim could have asked to be saved from the fire, to be taken away, but no, he said: "I only wish that Allah be pleased with me." The catapult was released, and Ibrahim was thrown in the heart of the fire. But Allah would not allow His beloved Prophet to be killed, He ordered the fire: "O fire! Be coolness and safety for Ibrahim!" And the miracle happened. The fire obeyed and burned only his chains. Ibrahim came out from it as if he was coming out from a garden, peaceful, his face illuminated, and not a trace of smoke on his clothes. People watched in shock and said: "Amazing! Ibrahim’s God has saved him from the fire!"

Ibrahim’s popularity grew bigger after this event and the king of Babylon felt that his throne was in danger, and that he was loosing power, because he was pretending that he was a god. He sent for Ibrahim. He wanted to debate with him and show his people that he, the king is indeed the god, and Ibrahim was a liar. He asked Ibrahim: What can your God do that I cannot?

-My Lord is He Who gives life and death." Ibrahim said-I give life and death. I can bring a person from the street and have him executed, and I can grant my pardon to a person who was sentenced to death and save his life." The king said proudly-Well my Lord Allah makes the sun rise from the East. Can you make it rise from the West? The king was confounded. He was beaten at his own game, on his own territory, in front of his own people! Ibrahim left him there speechless and went back to his important mission, calling people to worship none but one God.

What are you worshipping by the way?
* The word Muslim means one who submits his will to the Will of God. Its an Arabic term used for obedient servants of God. Please do not get mistaken by Muslims you commonly come across in your daily lives.

See & Reflect

My dear friends and respected elders,
There are so many beautiful things in life, which just go unnoticed by us. They are very close to us but it's just that we do not have time to see them and reflect. Even if we see them, we do not see with amazement and wonder. If we see with these eyes, we will for sure see in them Signs of God. Therefore, the purpose of putting these pictures here is to just make you see and reflect.
Allah created all this for whom?
For whom He created heavens one over the other?
For whom He created earth in which are hidden treasures for man to benefit from and which provides different kinds of fruits and vegetables in which man delights?
For whom He sends down rain when the earth is dead?
For whom He made night to rest & day to find our livelihood and strive in the way Allah?
For whom He created the Sun which gives us light?
For whom He created the moon and the stars which provide coolness to our eyes in the silence of the night?
For whom He makes the wind blow?

My dear ones, all these blessings of Allah are for you and me. He created all this for you and me, so that we might be thankful to Him. We look at our own selves.

The eyes with which we see this beautiful world;
The ears with which we hear the beautiful sounds;
The nose with which we smell beautiful fragrances;
The taste bud with which we get the taste of different fruits;
The legs on which we walk;
The hands with which we do so many things and The heart with which we feel pain and joy.
Neither these blessings are the result of our supplications nor the result of our deeds. Allah has blessed us with these beautiful things out of His infinite mercy. These are few of the boundless blessings of Allah, the most merciful, in which we delight in and enjoy life. If He were to take any of these blessings from us, for not being thankful to Him or disobeying Him, we can do nothing. In fact, He has every right to do so. If He punishes us for being disobedient to Him, its perfectly justified. In fact, justice demands that obedient should be rewarded and rebel should be punished. Remember? I often keep speaking about Judgment Day (life after death), when scales would be established (smiles). You too can smile for a while, but please take it seriously.
Instead of looking at people whom Allah has apparently blessed more than us, we should look at people whom Allah has not blessed with so many things in life. Please remember that we can only be thankful to Him when we will look at people who are not so blessed as we are and who are not so lucky as we are. When He has blessed us with so many beautiful things in life, shouldn’t we be thankful to Him and share these with others and worship none but Him? Bow down before none but Him?
Instead of getting comments like, ‘you are doing a great job’, etc., I would be more happy if this blog could be a source of guidance for the visitors. I make Allah witness, the sole purpose of writing this blog is nothing but to save mankind from the eternal doom on which he is headed. I pray Allah from the bottom of my heart to guide us all on the path that is simple and straight. The truth is always plain and simple and easy to understand. Verily, guidance truly lies with Allah. I am nothing but a weak slave of Allah, who is trying to move the mountains. By Allah’s will I can move that too and without His will, I cannot move a fly.
Your friend, Hasan

It is God who has raised the heavens without any supports that you could see, and is established on the throne of His almightiness; and He [it is who] has made the sun and the moon subservient [to His laws], each running its course for a term set [by Him]. He governs all that exists. Clearly does He spell out these messages, so that you might be certain in your innermost that you are destined to meet your Sustainer [on Judgment Day]. Qur'aan, 13:2

He it is who has made the sun a [source of] radiant light and the moon a light [reflected], and has determined for it phases so that you might know how to compute the years and to measure [time]. None of this has God created without [an inner] truth. Clearly does He spell out these messages unto people of [innate] knowledge: Qur'aan, 10:5

Say: “Have you ever considered [this]: If God had willed that there should always be night about you, without break, until the Day of Resurrection - is there any deity other than God that could bring you light? Will you not, then, listen [to the truth]?”
Say: “Have you ever considered [this]: If God had willed that there should always be daylight about you, without break, until the Day of Resurrection - is there any deity other than God that could bring you [the darkness of] night, wherein you might rest? Will you not, then, see [the truth]?” Qur'aan, 28:71&72

And He it is who sends forth the winds as a glad tiding of His coming grace-so that, when they have brought heavy clouds, We may drive them towards dead land and cause thereby water to descend; and by this means do We cause all manner of fruit to come forth. Even thus shall We cause the \dead to come forth: [and this] you ought to keep in mind. Qur'aan, 7:57

And We have established the night and the day as two symbols; and thereupon We have effaced the symbol of night and set up [in its place] the light giving symbol of day, so that you might seek to obtain your Sustainer's bounty and be aware of the passing years and of the reckoning [that is bound to come]. For clearly, most clearly, have We spelt out everything!
Qur'aan, 17:12

[whereas] it is He who has made the night for you, so that you might have rest therein, and the day, to make [you] see in this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who [are willing to] listen. Qur'aan, 10:67

Hallowed is He who has set up in the skies great constellations, and has placed among them a [radiant] lamp and a light-giving moon. Qur'aan, 25:61

Blog: short and long

A couple of friends suggested me that I should make my blog short. I would have loved to make it short, but when things as important as God and our relationship with Him are discussed, it's just not possible to cut it down to couple of lines and moreso when man is hellbent to annihilate himself in the eternal hell fire. Though it's very easy for me to say what I want to say in a couple of lines , but the question arises - will the readers understand? I doubt.

For instance, I say to my Hindu friend that embrace Islam, so that you may be successful, both in this world and the world hereafter. Now, if he does not know the meaning of Islam and what it means, he will hit back and say, why don't you become a Hindu? Or if I say the same thing to a Christian , he will tell me why don't you become a Christian? They are giving these answers because they think (as a common man think without understanding the meaning) that I am inviting him/her to embrace my religion, therefore, he hits back and tells me why don't you embrace mine? Hence, its imperative to explain to him/her in a bit detail the meaning of Islam, which means nothing but peaceful submission to the will of God. I am not inviting him/her to worship my God. I am, in very simple terms saying to him/her that worship your Lord and your Creator. Do not associate anything with Him, who has power over all things. Who gave you life, will cause you to die and make you accountable for your deeds. The gods and goddesses made of clay and stones, the saints sleeping in the graves, or for that matter anything other than God that you worship, can neither harm you nor benefit you. What's wrong with you?

Now take it a step further. He tells me how do you know that? Has any inspiration come to you from the heavens? I tell him no my dear brother/sister, I am a man like you, but I have a read book called Qur'aan. It's the last and final revelation of God for entire mankind. It was revealed on an unlettered man called Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was no mythological figure. He was born in the light of history. He was an honest and upright man. Even his enemies attested to his integerity and honesty. He was inspired by God. He called men to their natural self, that is to worship none but God, who is God of all. He came to set right the teachings of the prophets of yore, which man had corrupted for material gains. He came to reconnect the lost connection between Master and His slave and save man from the eternal doom.

Actually, Allah looks at our heart. He guides only those who long for it. That's why after having told the right and wrong path through His messengers, He gave man free will to choose his way. That's why Allah says in Qur'aan that there is no compulsion on religion, but Truth clearly stands out from error. So to my friends, who asked me to make my blog short, I most humbly would like to say that such a serious matter cannot be said in few lines, though I will inshaAllah try to make it short where ever possible. It's a serious blog meant for those in search of Truth and much needed peace and happiness. If I could just be a medium, it's nothing but Allah's mercy. Allah is free of all wants. Guidance truly lies with Allah.

Answering an idol worshipper friend

Asslaamualaikum (May peace be on you all),

The following text was written in response to a friend, who told me when we met that he doesn’t understand what I say. He was specially referring to “The Truth Beckons” (please see March 2009 posting). This is how it goes:

I often send you ladies and gentlemen with texts concerning all that is good and pure. I recently met a friend of mine who is also in my mailing list. He also gets such mails from me. He told me that you know Hasan, I don't understand what you keep sending. Hence, I show your mails the way to trash (the place where you divert unwanted mails). By the grace of Allah he is well educated like any one of you. I failed to grasp what he didn't understand. May be his blind faith was challenged by something which is so pure and true. May be, he is used to living in darkness. Hence, seeing the light all of a sudden he was taken aback and got afraid. God knows best. But I respect him and care for him. He is my friend. I do not mind his words as he know not.

I tell a plumber (who is 6th standard pass) or Rickshaw wala (who is hardly educated) that your God and my God and God of all is One, therefore we should worship Him alone. We should not set up partners unto Him. Setting partners unto God is most heinous indeed. Follow the last prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and what is revealed on him (Qur'aan). He did not bring any new religion or any new thing. On the contrary he confirmed what was revealed to the prophets (peace be upon them all) before him. He only set right the corrupted form of religion. He is the last in the chain of the prophets and therefore is called the Seal of the Prophethood. He came to liberate mankind from blind customs and traditions and invited them to submit their will to their Creator, their Master, so that they may prosper. All this is well understood by my plumber friend and Rickshaw wala. But my dear friend who is a well qualified in terms of earning money (actually, that's the definition of qualified people in our dictionary), has got certificates to show off, mashaAllah has been a teacher also, does not understand what I mean when I say God is One. He does not understand simple things, but amazingly, somehow understands complicated things.

It's really astonishing how people find it difficult to grasp simply things in life and follow blindly the complicated things. Just because we have seen our fore fathers doing it?

"When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers." What! even though their fathers were void of wisdom and guidance? The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom." (Qur'aan, 2:170-171)

For example, I say to my dear friend that your Lord and Lord of all is One. Therefore worship Him alone. He finds it difficult to grasp! Whereas what he does? He worships gods (I do not know how many, but for sure they are many in numbers) and yet he tells me that they all are one (though he has not told me so, but that’s what it is said by those who worship many gods and goddesses). There are other set of people who say Trinity. They say God, the Holy Spirit and the only begotten son (read Jesus). They are three but one. Common please! You will drive people crazy. Knock your heart and search your soul and dare to ask yourself which one is more simple and true - One True God, which is all Powerful, the Creator of the heavens and earth and everything that is in between or many gods and goddesses made of clay, which neither can benefit nor harm anyone nor can create a fly? When Islam invites mankind to worship one True God, then it means One True God. Islam means nothing but peace. It also means submission to the Will of God.

My friend further told me that whatever messages you send what’s your in it? It looks like that you just simply copy and paste. I told him you are very true. There is nothing which is mine. What I send you or to others is only and purely from God. There is nothing I add or subtract from it. That's actually what happened to Holy Scriptures that were revealed to prophets (peace be upon them all) before Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is what Qur'aan has to say in this regard;

"Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby." (Qur'aan, 2:79)

I am not at all worthy and qualified enough to take this lofty message of God to mankind, but whatever little I know as a Muslim (i.e., one who submits his will to the Will of God), I have to spread this message far and wide to the best of my capability inshaAllah (God Willing). InshaAllah, there would be many fortunate souls who will accept it and there would also be unfortunate ones, who will reject it. If someone accepts it, it’s by Allah's Grace and if someone rejects it, I will think that there must have been some shortcoming from my side in delivering this Divine message. Even Muhammad's (peace be upon him) duty was only to take this message to mankind. He was not made responsible to guide someone to the True Path. The Guidance truly lies with Allah. He guides whom He wills, but there should be desire within ourselves to be guided on the Path that True and Straight.

It should very well be remembered that Allah does not guide haughty and rebellious people. Unless and until we humble ourselves before our Lord and stop thinking that we are more knowledgeable than God (May God forbid), we can never see the light of knowledge. Who are we by the way? What ground we hold when it comes to knowledge or anything else? To tell you honestly, we are naught. I repeat, we are naught. We know only that much what Allah has made us known.

If He were to take our eye sight, we could do nothing.
If He were to take the power to listen, we could do nothing.
If He were to take the power to smell, we could do nothing.
If He were to take our taste buds, we could do nothing.

What we think we are? A creation of God fashioned from a drop of sperm. A dirty drop, if it is to get on our clothes we wash them because it's dirty and impure. We should look at ourselves what we were and what we are. It is He who has fashioned us thus, so that per chance we may be thankful. Read thus;

"He creates man out of a [mere] drop of sperm: and lo! this same being shows himself endowed with the power to think and to argue!" (Qur'aan, 16:4)

"Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- Taught man that which he knew not. Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). Seest thou one who forbids- A votary when he (turns) to pray? Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- Or enjoins Righteousness? Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- A lying, sinful forelock! Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer to Allah.!"
(Qur'aan, 96:1-19)

"O MEN! If you are in doubt as to the [truth of] resurrection, [remember that,] verily, We have created [every one of] you out of dust, then out of a drop of sperm, then out of a germ-cell, then out of an embryonic lump complete [in itself] and yet incomplete, so that We might make [your origin] clear unto you. And whatever We will [to be born] We cause to rest in the [mothers’] wombs for a term set [by Us], and then We bring you forth as infants and [allow you to live] so that [some of] you might attain to maturity: for among you are such as are caused to die [in childhood], just as many a one of you is reduced in old age to a most abject state, ceasing to know anything of what he once knew so well. And [if, O man, thou art still in doubt as to resurrection, consider this:] thou canst see the earth dry and lifeless - and [suddenly,] when We send down waters upon it, it stirs and swells and puts forth every kind of lovely plant!" (Qur'aan, 22:5)

We think, the more a person have degrees and certificates the more knowledgeable he is. True, that could be the definition of knowledge in man made dictionaries but not in the dictionary of God. Real knowledge lies in knowing your Creator, your relationship with Him, your relationship with your fellow beings and last but not the least, why we are here? What's the purpose of life? This is what God has to say about the haughty and the rebellious;

"On the Day of Judgment wilt thou see those who told lies against Allah.- their faces will be turned black; Is there not in Hell an abode for the Haughty?" (Qur'aan, 39:60)

"If only they had believed in Allah, in the Messenger, and in what hath been revealed to him, never would they have taken them for friends and protectors, but most of them are rebellious wrong-doers." (Qur'aan, 5:81)

"As to those who are rebellious and wicked, their abode will be the Fire: every time they wish to get away therefrom, they will be forced thereinto, and it will be said to them: "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire, the which ye were wont to reject as false." (Qur'aan, 32:20)

Now, having said all, I request you to kindly let me know if you detest such kind of mails from me. I am not going to force the Truth down your throat neither I have the permission from my Lord to do so. Man has been given free will to choose his way.

"Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things." (Qur'aan, 2:256)

Please do take care
Warm regards,

HAsan MUhammad ALi

Answering a Christian Missionary (Saint Theresa II)

This the second mail that I exchanged with the Christian missionary regarding Saint Theresa. The subject title (Saint Theresa II) might make you smile, but that's the way it is and it's serious too.

The lady writes thus in her second mail

Dear Hasan,

Thanks for writing to me - i am totally against all these. because I believe in living GOD. My GOD IS STILL ALIVE. He always replies for my prayers, may be it is through a Saint, may be it is through a begger, may be in anyother way - It shows, that he listen to me and my prayers.

I cannot argue with you,i never studied Qur'aan - but dear hasan please understand, Saint Teresa is not a God- but a representative of GOD Like Mohammad. A MESSENGER

when we were children , we never asked our fatherS directly for any permission LIKE AN ESCURTION OR A TRIP - do you??? certainly not. We always use the sources, which is your mother, uncle , Aunt or anybodyelse who is very close to your father WHY?????
because you know may be your father will not agree...or you cannot convice him fully, as your mother can or anybodyelse can... am i right????

here is we are also using a mediater to GOD which through his mother Marry or any Saints. We are Praising GOD - Thanks him and Worship him not the statue of ....... to bringing your mind to GOD we need a Face ... We are not worship the air which is created by GOD... He is the only creature of everything.....

you cannot blame anybody - any religion like that....fianlly you have believe the Fact

JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD- YOU ONLY MENTIONED - MOTHER MARRY DID NOT KNOW ANY MAN,STILL SHE GAVE BIRTH TO JESUS.. HOW CAN SHE THEN GAVE A BIRTH TO CHILD?

THE ANGEL SAID EVERYTHING. is possible by GOD... you also did ,you send me 17 times the same mails to me - so you forwarded it ... and it is with St. Theresa's phot and prayer was there. GOD made to you do so. YOU ARE ONE OF GOD'S SELECTED CHILD.

MAY THE GOD BLESS YOU TO REALISE WHO IS WHO. .. WE WILL BE IN TOUCH LIKE THIS ON THIS MAILS.

I HEARD THAT QU'RAAN MENTIONED MOTHER MARRY'S NAME 3 TIMES. NO OTHER LADY NAME IN THE WHOLE QU'RAAN. IS IT TRUE?

"BIBLE SAYS, WHOEVER REJECT MY MOTHER WILL NOT ENTER INTO ETERNAL LIFE."

Take care

Thanks for your precious time to taken out to read it.
Achamma

My reply to the above mail

Dear lady Achamma,

You are against all this but still you propagate it? No doubt, everybody's God is alive. It is the personal gods that have passed away. You are also true when you say that your God replies. He feeds and heals even those who associate partners unto Him and you are no exception.

God has always bestowed apostleship only on men, not on women. No woman has ever been an apostle. From Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all), they all have been men. Your Saint Teresa can't be compared with Muhammad or any other prophet. These apostles were the chosen ones. By the way, on what authority you say that Saint Teresa is a representative of God? I am keen to know that. If you haven't studied Qur'aan, then you should know this last revelation. It's the confirmation of the revelations that went before it.

"This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah. on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds." (Qur'aan, 10:37)

You say that Saint Teresa is a representative of God, like Muhammad. If you admit that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a messenger then what's the problem in following him? You see, just being good on lips is not enough. It will not serve any purpose. It should be manifested in our deeds. Actually, manifesting through deeds is more difficult than of course just doing the lip service.

You say that to bring to your mind God, you need face (or in other words statue). Actually, that's the common argument put forth by all those who bow down before lifeless idols, made of clay and stone. I also gave you example of an idol in my previous mail also, but I think you didn't get it. I thought it was only my grasping power, which is weak, but you have left me behind. So why only statue or idol made by man only, if you say that you need a face to bring to your mind God? Why not something natural, made by God Himself. For example, may be horse, frog, pigeon, Lion (but that might scare you), camel, etc. There are so many other animals and things created by God for you to choose from. Or you think you are better sculptor?

Your arguments make me laugh. There is no harm in giving examples, but they should be relevant. For example, here is the one given by you and I quote, "when we were children , we never asked our fatherS directly for any permission LIKE AN ESCURTION OR A TRIP - do you??? certainly not. We always use the sources, which is your mother, uncle , Aunt or anybodyelse who is very close to your father WHY????? because you know may be your father will not agree...or you cannot convice him fully, as your mother can or anybodyelse can... am i right????"

This is what Almighty says for people like you;

And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer): but those who are too arrogant to serve Me will surely find themselves in Hell - in humiliation!" (Qur'aan, 40:60)

When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way. (Qur'aan, 2:186)

You see, this is the error that many people make, even Muslims, but it has nothing to do with Islam. They make the graves of the saints as places of worship and they say (as you say now) that we worship God only, but we make these pious souls just a medium to reach God. Has God erected any barriers for commoners like me that He can't be approached directly? Just as we have got so much used to paying bribes to get our files moving in the government offices (read India), the same stupid principle we apply in relation to God also.

Even Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised his followers to visit graves, but not to make them a mediator, but rather to supplicate for the departed soul that Allah may forgive his sins and grant him place in the heaven. He even instructed his followers that my grave should not be made a place of assembly. And Muslims do go to Medina to prophet's grave but they only send peace and blessings on him, they do not bow down before him. You see, these are tricks of Satan, our avowed enemy to deviate man from the true path. The only thing that can save us from Satan and his ways is Qur'aan and Sunnah (prophet Muhammad’s way of life) and this is what he bid to his followers in his last sermon, also called the farewell pilgrimage.

I am not blaming any religion, neither I am using any bad language. If I say anything against the prophets or God then you can say that I am blaming or using words, which I shouldn't be using, and I am not so stupid that I will use such words and make myself worthy of Allah's wrath. In fact, the people who associate divinity with Jesus (peace be upon him) or anybody else and reject Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the last prophet are rejecting Commands of Allah. It looks like, as if they are saying that look God! We have devised a better way of life than the one You kept sending through your messengers and the one that culminated with Muhammad (peace be upon him).

You see, there is something very typical I have seen in Christians, specially missionaries. You also seem like one. Ask what? And it's that no matter how crystal clear you make things to them, but somehow they twist and turn and change the meaning of things. The same thing they do with the word trinity also to prove it as one. They say the Father, the Holy Ghost/Spirit and the son (Jesus) are three but one. But when asked to explain, they give stupid examples to prove their point. But Islam teaches us that your God is One, absolutely one. For example, when I raise my one finger, it's one finger. If you try to make fault with it by saying anything other than one, then it means that something is wrong with you. You need a thorough check up, specially of your brain and heart. It's not only limited with fingers only, it goes beyond that. It's backed up by deeds. We pray only to one God. But as said, earlier, those Muslims who make graves of saints as places of prostration are doing against the teachings of Islam. It has nothing to do with Islam. But a Christian missionary raises his 3 fingers and gets down to start explaining and proving that these 3 fingers that you see are 3 but one. Please spare us. Please go to poor guys give them money and purchase their beliefs. I, on the other hand, am not asking you to bow down before Muhammad (peace be upon him). I am inviting you worship none but God and believe in all the prophets and all the revelations. Islam is an Arabic word, it means nothing but peaceful submission to the will of Allah. And I do not bribe you with material things, on the contrary, I warn you that look brother, it’s not easy to walk on Path that is True and Straight. It has never been. When you walk in the way of Allah, He for sure will test you. If you pass, the test, then you are a true believer. I also do not invite you to accept Islam blindly. I invite you to use your brain and heart and decide for yourself without any prejudice. If you find it True, accept it. If you do not, Allah is well above all wants. He neither needs you nor me. If you bow down before God, it’s for your own benefit. Neither you are doing any favour to me nor to God.

Coming to your/missionaries special ability to decipher meanings, in other words, to twist and turn the meanings, you say that I accept Jesus (peace be upon him) as son of God. I most humbly, would like to ask you where did I say so (both in this mail and my earlier mail)? You see Achamma, I need to remind you about something. You are not against me, you are up against Almighty and His religion and that's why Islam means peaceful submission to the will of Allah. What does Christianity mean by the way? Anyways. I am a Muslim and lying is haraam (impermissible) for me. Whereas for missionaries like you, lying is just a game. The God is very well aware of the tricks of the missionaries like you and that's why wherever He has mentioned the name of Jesus (peace be upon him), He has used the suffix "son of Mary". So the question doesn't arise of me saying Jesus is the son of God. You got to be honest; Jesus (peace be upon him) was amongst the honest. First you need to learn honesty.

It seems like you have not read my mail fully. You say and I quote, "Jesus is the son of God – you only mentioned – mother Marry did not know any man, still she gave birth to Jesus.. How can she then gave a birth to child"?

To answer to your question how she gave birth to Jesus (peace be upon him), when no man had ever touched him, this is what I quoted in my mail, which you didn't have the courage to face it.

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is! And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel"
(Qur'aan, 3:47&48)

I explain to you the meaning of the above verse, if your English is weak (which I believe is) because you are failing every now and then to understand simple things. When Mary (may Allah be pleased be her) said to angel that how can she have a child when no man ever touched him, the angel replied that Allah creates what He Wills. When He wills a plan he says to it "Be" and "There it Is".

You say, I quote, "I heard that Qur'aan mentioned mother Marry's name 3 times. No other lady name in the whole Qur'aan. Is it true?"

I can't say whether it's 3 times or what, but I believe it's most probably more than 3 times and if I am not wrong, then Jesus's (peace be upon him) name has been mentioned in Qur'aan more than Muhammad's (peace be upon him) name. I will tell you more, if you do not know about Mary (may Allah be pleased with her) as a Christian. I quote few verses for you here;

“And Lo! The angels said: "O Mary! Behold, God has elected thee and made thee pure, and raised thee above all the women of the world. (Qur'aan, 3:42)

“And [remember] her who guarded her chastity, whereupon We breathed into her of Our spirit and caused her, together with her son, to become a symbol [of Our grace] unto all people.” (Qur'aan, 21:91)

“And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace], and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. “ (Qur'aan, 23:50)

Please do not tell me what Bible says. It's gone corrupt beyond recognition. I will inshaAllah quote you few verses from the Bible in my next mail and will ask you then, can these be the words of God. But that's for the next mail.

I would like to make humble suggestion to you. You should at least add the suffix "peace be upon him/her" when you take the name of Jesus, Mary or any other prophet, out of nothing but reverence. You do not feel ashamed by taking their names callously, but you are ready to bow down before them. This is nothing but sheer hypocrisy.

All praise be to Allah! You say, I quote, "you also did you send me 17 times the same mails to me - so you forwarded it ... and it is with St. Theresa's phot and prayer was there. GOD made to you do so. You are one of God's selected child."

Reading your above lines, make me smile. But I will make a slight correction here. Yes, God did make me spread His message through you. Allah doesn't depend on me or Muslims or anyone else. He is to make His religion prevail over all others; this is the decree of thy Lord, no matter how much the non-believers dislike it. As for "God selected child", I do feel that Allah has blessed me with something so precious and that is the wealth of Eemaan (Faith). It's better than the heavens and the earth and everything in that is in between them.

I warn you of a severe punishment that awaits those who reject faith.

"Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin most heinous indeed."
(Qur'aan, 4:48)

In the end I humbly invite you to Islam so that you may prosper and save yourself from the eternal hell fire.

"If anyone desires religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him." (Qur'aan, 3:85)

May God bless you and please take care
In the service of mankind,
Hasan

P.S.: The text in green is a later addition. I have also corrected few mistakes here and there, which I made in my original mail. I have not marked them green because they are not addition, but correction. Though the lady wrote in her mail that she will be in touch through mails, but I am yet to receive any mail from her concerning whatever we exchanged through couple of mails. I cannot help, but quote a verse from Qur'aan in this regard.

And say: "Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish." (Qur'aan, 17:81)
